Privacy
What we collect
Browsing Food Recall Radar requires no account and we ask for nothing. If you set up an email alert we store the address you give us, the alert criteria you choose, and a record of your consent — the exact wording shown to you, when you agreed, and the page you agreed on. We keep that consent record because email regulations require us to be able to demonstrate it.
IP addresses
We never store your IP address. Where we need to rate-limit a form we store a salted, truncated one-way hash of it, which cannot be reversed to recover the original address.
Alerts are opt-in and confirmed by a verification email, so an address cannot be subscribed by someone else. Every alert carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works immediately and without logging in. We do not sell, rent or share your address.
Analytics
We use Mixpanel to understand which pages are useful, and only if you say yes in the banner. Until then nothing from Mixpanel is loaded: no script, no cookie, no stored data. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control we treat that as a no and do not ask. Declining costs you no functionality.
If you say yes, Mixpanel receives which pages you view (the address without its query string, so never your search text), when an alert form fails or an alert is set up, and when you follow a link to an official FDA or USDA notice or to Tastewise. For an alert it receives only counts and settings: how many categories, hazards, brands and states you chose, the minimum severity and the frequency, never the brands or states themselves. These are tied to an anonymous ID kept in your browser. Mixpanel works out your approximate location (city, region and country) from your IP address and, per its documentation, does not keep the address. It never receives your email address, and we never link the anonymous ID to it. Unsubscribe links are sent with the token removed.
You can change your choice at any time from “Analytics settings” in the footer. Turning analytics off deletes what Mixpanel stored in your browser.
The recall data itself
Every recall on this site is public-domain information published by FDA or USDA. It contains company names and product details, which are part of the public record, and no personal data about you.
